JCJC breaks ground on Wayne County learning center | Schools
Jones County Junior College is inviting the community to attend the groundbreaking for the new Learning Center in Waynesboro on June 14 at 9:30 a.m. The ground breaking ceremony will take place at 919 Azalea Drive, which is near the Great Southern Bank and across from the Wayne County Vocational Center.
The Wayne County Learning Center is the result of a partnership between JCJC, the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, the Wayne County School District, and the Twin Districts. This approximately 11,000 square foot facility will provide educational opportunities in advanced manufacturing and the health care field. Adult basic education/GED services, small business development, and credit and non-credit classes will also be offered in this facility, making it a convenient option for higher education. JCJC hopes to be able to begin offering classes in two years.
A $1.5 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration will fund the project that is expected to create about 510 jobs through this investment. The building will also be constructed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design specifications. For more information contact at 601-477-4082.
